About the program

The Renters' Home Energy Program is a free and easy way to:

  • save on your home energy bills
  • get tips on the quickest, cheapest and best ways to reduce energy use
  • make your rental home more comfortable without using more gas or electricity
  • reduce your impact on the environment.

How it works

You can choose to get a free home energy assessment in your home or over the phone or do it yourself and use our online tool.

In-person or over-the-phone

An expert assessor will either come to your home or call you as part of a free 60-minute service.

They'll suggest actions you can take as a renter to make your home more energy efficient.

For a limited time, participants taking part in the free Renters’ Home Energy Assessment in-person or over-the-phone receive a free heated throw rug. Please note, heated throw rugs are not provided for online webtool assessments.

To request a booking, please contact us or complete the online booking form.

Online

The Renters’ Home Energy Webtool is a series of online questions that takes about 30 minutes to complete.

The webtool asks straightforward questions about your home.

After submitting your responses, you'll receive a tailored list of actions to make your home more comfortable and reduce your energy use and costs.

Why it's important

The ACT is committed to net zero emissions by 2045. One way to help reach this goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from household energy. It'll ensure a cleaner, greener future for everyone in Canberra.

The Renters’ Home Energy Program will help you learn what you can do to save money on energy bills while creating a healthier environment.

Household energy use contributes about 20% of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions.
